Games are 22 minutes long (or less as decided by the official Time Keeper), split into two equal halves with an optional 1 minute half-time break.
All sidelines, baselines and midcourt boundaries shall be enforced.
All fouls and infractions are to be called only by the players involved in the play.
Clear path and Intentional fouls - Intentional fouls are not allowed in B.U.F.F. Violators shall be penalized at the discretion of the Commissioner.
Stalling - Stalling is prohibited. Teams caught stalling shall be penalized at the discretion of the Commissioner.
Foul at the End of the Game - A game cannot end on a foul. In the event of a foul and no time remains, the last play shall be replayed.
Good Sportsmanship Rules
Some people say, “I have to do whatever I can to stop my man”. That is not the point in B.U.F.F. Defense must be played within the constraints of good sportsmanship. You must play the ball.
Face guarding – While the debate over face guarding continues, it is the opinion of the Commissioner and the F.L.A.B. Committee that it is an unsportsmanlike and dangerous tactic. I do not want to see anyone get poked in the eye.
Hand Checking: A defender may not place and keep his hand on an opponent unless he is in the area near the basket with his back to the basket. A defender may momentarily touch an opponent with his hand anywhere on the court as long as it does not affect the opponent’s movement (speed, quickness, balance, rhythm).
A defender will not be permitted to use his forearm to impede the progress of an offensive player who is facing the basket in the frontcourt.
Contact: Brief contact initiated by a defensive player will be allowed if it does not impede the progress of the player with the ball.
Ticky Tack Fouls: The basic premise from which B.U.F.F. is derived from is that “All foul calls must be honored”.
If anyone feels that a player is repeatedly and unnecessarily calling ticky tack or insignificant fouls, voice your concerns to the Commissioner.
If enough complaints are received such that a trend is noticeable, the Commissioner will investigate and deal with the offender.
Please realize that the number of ticky tack fouls disputed so far have been relatively small and have had insignificant impact on the outcome of games. So, it’s probably not even worth worrying about.
Jump ball and Alternating Possessions: Jump ball situations shall be resolved with alternating possessions beginning with the start of the game possession. The following situations shall be resolved with the alternating possession rule:
Held ball
Charge/Block plays that are disputed.
Irresolvable calls
Ball stuck on the rim.
Any other irresolvable situations.
