The Basketball Junkie's Guide to the B.U.F.F. Universe
Be cordial to all inhabitants. All inhabitants in B.U.F.F. are very
friendly people. You may not become best friends with everyone but please be respectful
and polite to everyone. B.U.F.F.’s law
of natural selection means that players who don’t co-exist harmoniously with
the others may face extinction.
Be a TEAM player. There is no “I” in B.U.F.F. It is expected that all players be team-oriented players. Everyone deserves to touch the ball. Be careful about hogging the ball. It never hurts to pass the ball more. Players who do not share the ball do not belong in B.U.F.F. and may not be invited back at the discretion of the Commissioner and the F.L.A.B. Committee. There is a difference between being a No. 1 option and being a trigger-happy ball hog. The Commissioner and his advisors do notice who doesn’t share the ball.
Maintain good communication with the Commissioner. Please reply promptly to invitations, polls and other emails from the Commissioner.
Be a Good Sport. Winning isn’t everything. Winning should not be put ahead of friendship and sportsmanship. Most of the players in B.U.F.F. are here to have a good time, play some ball and get some exercise.
Be aware of other’s feelings. We are not professionals. We all make mistakes, miss shots and make turnovers. Please do not scold others or express displeasure with teammate’s mistakes or shortcomings.
Physical Play – Players should try to minimize excessive physical play. Initiating contact, diving for balls, reckless out of control play is not encouraged. If you cannot play without resorting to overly physical tactics then B.U.F.F. is not the right place for you to play in.
Displays of Anger - Players should try to keep their tempers in check. Self-directed anger over poor performance is understandable. Displays of anger or belligerence towards others will not be tolerated and may result in suspension or expulsion from B.U.F.F.
Respect all calls – Every player has his own comfort level regarding fouls. All calls are to be accepted and respected. If “ticky-tack” calls become retaliatory the game will eventually self-destruct and the Commissioner will be forced to intervene. You do not want to pick up a reputation as a “ticky-tack foul caller”. Know your opponent’s defensive comfort level.
Respect for your Teammates – Not every player will be as skilled as you. Respect your teammates. There shall be no openly disparaging comments or gestures about a teammate’s missed shots, turnovers or defensive shortcomings.
B.U.F.F. is Gentleman’s Basketball – Play and behave like gentlemen, on and off the court.
Play ball, have fun, hang out, and enjoy life.
Playing in B.U.F.F. should be considered a privilege, not a right.
