The Ten Rules of B.U.F.F.
1.
Participation is by
invitation only. If you are invited please respond
promptly with your acceptance or decline. If you accept an invitation,
you are expected to show up. I only invite the exact number of people I
need to fill complete teams....no extras...A no-show can be detrimental to your
B.U.F.F. career and seriously inconveniences the others. If you have an
emergency, please do everything possible to notify me or someone else on the
roster before the game. I can almost always be reached via email as early
as 3:00 am on game days. Even an email immediately after the game will do
much to remedy the situation. If I don't hear
from you, don't expect to hear from me. Courtesy is always appreciated.
2. Please reply promptly. It takes a lot of time to organize a game. In the past I often allowed up to two weeks to reply. It is expected that game invitations be replied to within two days. Please check your emails often and reply quickly. If you need more time to decide, please drop me a note requesting an extension and let me know when you will know if you can play. If I do not get a reply in the allotted amount of time, you will receive an email stating that your invitation has been rescinded. If the roster spot remains open as game time approaches I may re-contact you to see if your issues have been resolved and if you still want to play.
3. Always Bring a White and a Black Shirt. Sometimes you may need to switch colors. Dark blue is OK. Please do not wear grey shirts. Too many people have complained about how difficult it is to tell which team the "Grey Person" is on.
4. Do not stand if front of the camera. If you want nicer videos please remember to try to not stand in front of the video cameras.
5. Leave your attitudes at the door. No one should be here to show everyone else “who’s the man”. There are many fine players in B.U.F.F. There are some players here with pretty impressive athletic pedigrees and it is pretty much understood that most of us older players are over the hill. You may be a great ball player, but there will always be someone better. Everyone in B.U.F.F. has been selected for their basketball skills and outstanding character. Everyone in B.U.F.F. is a great person! Please show courtesy and respect to everyone. Teamwork and passion count for more than ability here. Razing (a little) and cheering your fellow Buffster while you watch is acceptable and encouraged, trash talking, anger and intimidation is not. We are here to have fun.
6. Feedback is greatly appreciated. This league is for all of you, not for me. The enjoyment I derive from being Commssioner of B.U.F.F. comes from producing a quality, fun game and that everyone enjoys themselves and gets to know new people (Of course I also enjoy playing too). Sometimes I have to make tough decisions and I try to not be biased. I do appreciate any comments, questions, suggestions, observations, etc... from everyone. I often think up crazy ideas to try to make B.U.F.F enjoyable and unique. Some are good ideas and some not so good...so just let me know how things went.
7. If you are not enjoying playing in B.U.F.F. please give up your roster spot. I prefer that people are playing because they really have a passion for basketball. You may also be here for different reasons like to get some exercise or meet some chicks from among the hoards of B.U.F.F. groupies, but if you find you are not enjoying yourself, and find yourself forcing yourself to come down to the gym to play, it's probably better that you relinquish your spot.
8. Communication is very important. Everything in B.U.F.F. is conveyed through email (or this website). All players must be reachable via email. It is important that if you have not heard from me in a while that you contact me if you want to continue playing. It has happened before where my email messages were getting sent back as "Undeliverable" so I could not invite or contact a certain player...so he faded away into oblivion. Promptness in responding to emails is greatly appreciated.....If you need more time to make a decision, just drop me an email and let me know.
9. Overly Physical and Reckless Play is prohibited. Overly physical play leads to higher injury risk. Injuries are our number one enemy at B.U.F.F. Horse-play is not appreciated.
10. Learn and Trust your Teammates. Basketball is a team sport. There is a fine line between being a great player and being a ball hog. The truly great players in B.U.F.F. know how to keep their teammates involved while leading their team to victory (they are called MVPs)….Kobe, are you listening? Great players make their teammates better.
