Communique No. 4 - Let's get Physical
Continuing my series of Communiques intended to make sure everyone in B.U.F.F. is "on the same page" or playing by the same rules, this communique addresses the topic of Physical play.
Basketball is a contact sport. Guys moving fast, bumping into each other, someone is bound to fall down eventually. The basic laws of physics tell us that when a big body bumps into a smaller body the smaller body will usually be moved or knocked down. Word to the Big Bodies of B.U.F.F. (BBB), please try to avoid hard contact with the littler bodies of B.U.F.F..
If you happen to knock someone over, please help him up. If you get knocked down please accept his hand, I will vouch that no one here is trying to purposely hurt anyone. (if you have suspicions, please contact me). I know a lot of BUFF friends like to play rough with each other, that's fine as long as you have an understanding between you two.
Watch out for wild swings at the ball when you are trying to block a shot...and miss...Everyone should try to avoid contact...avoid charging and blocking.... I have seen a few ticky tack fouls being called on occasion. As mentioned in Communique No. 3, the occurances of ticky tack fouls is relatively rare. Please just honor the call and if it really bothers you talk to me. I am always taking mental notes and if I notice a trend I will investigate....there are a couple guys starting to get reps....
If the foul doesn't affect your shot, maybe let it go. But if you bump someone and it causes him to lose balance on his shot, you should call it....do the right thing... I know we are all beyond that school kid attitude that "I never miss unless I am fouled." The Stevinator, Jon Wood, Nick and a lot of our centers get beat on all game long and never say a word. Guards please ease up on the hand slapping while reaching in trying to steal the ball from our centers.
Word to our superstars, when a mortal is trying to guard you, sometimes he may foul you because you are so darn fast and tricky. Please don't get mad at us, just call the foul....we aren't purposely trying to hurt you. Mortals, don't rough up the superstars or they will scorch you.....
The league protects all of our players. In B.U.F.F. you really shouldn't use your hands on defense to hold, or push people....watch out for unnecessary body bumping. If you use those tactics the offensive guy may have no choice but to resort to his own offensive treachery. If you play that way, you really shouldn't be playing in B.U.F.F.
Don't wake the sleeping Dragon....Don't force me to unleash the Darbzilla! Now the BCS, that's another story!
Thanks,
Park
