Do you REALLY LOVE BASKETBALL?
B.U.F.F. is for people who have a really strong passion for basketball. B.U.F.F. is for the young at heart, for those who feel you're never too old to have fun.
B.U.F.F. is not necessarily a group of All Stars, but rather a collection of talented and passionate players who are compatible on and off the court.

Please tell me a little about your "Game":
When was the last time you played?
Are you in game condition now?
Do you run or workout regularly?
Are you a TEAM player? B.U.F.F. Basketball is for TEAM players. B.U.F.F. does not accept ball hogs, black holes, drama queens, out of control, overly physical or reckless players.
Do you have 100% self control of your temper?
I highly recommend that all players be dedicated to getting and being in shape to play in order to maximize enjoyment and minimize risk of injury. It is not fair to your teammates if you come out to play out of shape and out of practice and you start chucking bricks. A new player working his way back into shape should adjust his game accordingly until he gets his "sea legs" back.
What is the highest level of organized basketball you have played in? Please be specific (middle school leagues, Asian Leagues, HS Frosh/Soph, HS JV, HS Varsity, College Intramurals, NCAA, City Leagues, Work Leagues, NBA, Euro Leagues, etc.)

Are you a willing passer?

In B.U.F.F. we have a thing called "Sole Brothers". These are the NBA players whose playing styles and skills are similar to yours. I have been given the Sole Brother, Ray Allen because I am an outside shooter.
Who do you think your Sole Brother would be?

New players usually start out as subs and are invited whenever there is a appropriate opening for someone of their size, skill level, position, etc. It is very important that all players to reply to game invitations very promptly. Standard reply time is within two days. If I know I can get a quick response I will be more likely to call on you. It is very important for me to be able to contact you and get prompt responses as many invitations to subs are last minute and sometimes there are last minute changes or updates.
Players who never seem to be available when invited will eventually be waived...("Out of sight, out of mind")
Players with seniority usually get priority but subs are also invited based on what position needs to be filled for a specific game (we frequently have openings because of absences due to family commitments, work, illness and injuries, so there is usually always a need for subs).
Participation is by invitation only. I invite everyone to the games via invitations on Facebook or via email. If a player is too hard to contact or takes too long to reply, I will eventually grow tired of that and I will stop trying to invite you. If a player accepts an invitation and doesn't show up or is late to the game....that's very bad and they probably won't get invited back....Reliability is very important.
B.U.F.F. makes no guarantees on how much playing time a player will receive. New players usually are not recruited unless the Commissioner feels that he will get enough playing time during the season. Sometimes it is a matter of getting your "foot in the door" as there is frequent player turnover due to various reasons and subs will move into the vacated spots.
Summary:
At B.U.F.F. we are all among friends, old friends and new friends.
Players with bad tempers, ultra-intense, dirty players, cheaters, overly critical players, out of control players, reckless players, overly physical players, annoying people, anti social types, big ego types, ultra low basketball IQ players, ball hogs, black holes, Divas, Drama queens, Prima donnas, irresponsible players, unreliable players, passionless players and poor communicators (slow email responses) are not tolerated and will not be invited back.
B.U.F.F. has a Zero Tolerance Policy. Arguing and disrespect will not be tolerated….there shall be no challenging another’s manhood!
A person doesn't have to score a lot of points to be accepted in BUFF (Kobes are actually frowned upon), there is something for everyone....I like to see that every person can contribute in some way, whether it is by being a good shooter, passer, defender, rebounder, screener, team player etc.
Total self control is expected of everyone regarding anger issues, altercations and physical play. Any negative emotional outburst is justification for expulsion from the league.
Players who cannot play our style or have poor communication or reliability will not be invited back. This is called the “B.U.F.F. Fade”. I try to resolve issues with the players but if I do not see results after a warning, then that person will just “fade” away and not receive any further invitations or communications.
Does B.U.F.F. sound like something you would be interested in playing and can you play our style of Gentlemen's Basketball? Can you maintain your composure 100% of the time regardless if you feel provoked?
Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or comments.
